As part of the strategy to strengthen the elite Nigerian league, the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) board and Clubs Owners have agreed to outlaw selling of slots in the Nigeria's premier league.

This was part of the issues raised up by the league board at the Annual General Meeting (AGM).The adjustment, it was gathered, was agreed by the board and the club owners.

According to a source, the AGM concluded that should any of the 20 clubs decides to step down or not able to meet up with the club licensing requirements, the club that placed 5th in the NNL or the next placed team after the teams that qualify to the NPFL from the NNL will be given the opportunity to take up the slot.
The rule had initially given the opportunity to the best placed team amongst the relegating teams from the NPFL to take the place of the team that withdraws or failed to meet the club licensing requirements .
Also, the AGM also agreed on minimum of three years contract to chairmen of clubs and two years to other club officials.Any club found wanting will be penalised.
The chairman of the NPFL, Gbenga Elegbeleye, said gradually, corporate governance that will attract more investors will be entrenched.
