Nobody forced me to resign - Elegbeleye

The former chairman of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Hon Gbenga Elegbeleye has debunked a report that he was forced to resign from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Executive Committee to pave way for the proposed Normalisation Committee for the football body.

In a rebuttal, via telephone chat, the former lawmaker at the Federal House of Assembly told www Sportsunlimited.ng that contrary to the report, he resigned a day after the President of the NFF, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau announced his resignation.

"Your report that I was forced to resign was wrong. For your information, I resigned same day with the former Nigeria National League (NNL) chairman, George Aluo.

"Infact, I submitted my resignation to a former Minister of Sports the second day Gusau announced his resignation. There was nothing like being forced, I did so in the interest of the country," he said.

Honourable Elegbeleye lamented that the report sought to damage his reputation.

"You can imagine that a Governor drew my attention to the report. He, infact, forwarded the story to me. That's is damaging the report was," he said angrily.
