The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Comrade Philip Shaibu has expressed satisfaction following an inspection of the Institute's newly designated South West Zonal Office at the Ogun State Tech Hub in Abeokuta.

The inspection, which took place shortly after the DG attended the launch of the Ogun Learning Enhancement and Academic Resource Network (OgunLEARN), marked a significant milestone in NIS's nationwide expansion strategy aimed at decentralising sports development and bringing elite training infrastructure closer to grassroots communities across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones.

Speaking after the inspection, Comrade Shaibu described the Ogun State Tech Hub as an impressive facility that meets the Institute's requirements for establishing a functional zonal office.

He commended the state government for providing a modern, well-equipped space that will serve as the nerve centre for NIS operations across the South West zone, covering Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti.

"What we have seen today exceeds our expectations," Comrade Shaibu remarked.

"The Ogun State Tech Hub offers the kind of environment that aligns with our vision of a modernised, technology-driven National Institute for Sports. This facility will enable us to coordinate coach education programmes, athlete development initiatives, and stakeholder engagement activities effectively across the entire South West region."

The DG noted that the zonal office would commence operations in due course, with plans to deploy trained personnel who will work closely with state sports councils, schools, and local communities to identify and nurture sporting talent from the grassroots level.

Earlier, the immediate past Deputy Governor of Edo State, Comrade Shaibu attended the launch of OgunLEARN—the Ogun Learning Enhancement and Academic Resource Network—an initiative designed to strengthen educational outcomes across the state through enhanced learning resources and academic support systems.

Congratulating Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun on the initiative, the NIS DG described OgunLEARN as yet another testament to the Governor's commitment to human capital development.

"His Excellency Governor Abiodun continues to demonstrate visionary leadership in education," Comrade Shaibu stated.

"From the OgunDIGI Class initiative during the pandemic, to the construction of smart classrooms, the employment of over 4,000 teachers through OgunTeach, and now the launch of OgunLEARN, this stage "
