As part of moves to motivate members of the Super Eagles, team captain, Wilfred Ndidi, has promised to pay all the players their match bonuses if they defeat Algeria in the quarterfinal of the Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday.
According to statement credited to Nigerian journalist, Shina Okeleji, who reports for BBC and Aljazeera, the Besiktas of Turkey midfielder told him that if by Saturday, before the cracker with Algeria, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) fails to pay the players match bonuses.
The players and the federation officials have recently reached agreement to increase the match bonus from $15,000 in the group stage to $30,000 for the knockout stage.
It would be recalled that players had threatened to boycott training and refused to travel to Marrakesh for the game against Algeria if their accumulated match bonuses were not paid. It took the intervention of the Federal Government of Nigeria through the National Sports Commission (NSC) before the issues were resolved and the players agreed to embark on the trip.
