NBF petitions Lagos State Police Command over planned violent protest by NBBofC leadership
The Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) has submitted a formal petition at the Lagos state police command over a planned violent protest by Mr. Rafiu Ladipo and Mr. Remi Aboderin led Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC).
In a statement signed by NBF Director of Communication, Mathew Okugbe, the petition dated Monday 23rd, March 2026 and signed by the Secretary General of the (NBF), Vivian Azimene informed the police of the unlawful activities of the (NBBofC) including the instigation of members of the general public and the mobilization of suspected thugs posing as boxers with the aim to stage a vicious protest at the boxing headquarters located within the National Stadium in Surulere.
The NBF urged the police to urgently investigate the knavery activities of the (NBBofC), prevent any unlawful gathering or protest that may disrupt public order, and ensure the safety of lives and property within and around the National Stadium.
The apex boxing body in the country further asked the police to arrest and take appropriate legal action against Mr. Rafiu Ladipo and Mr. Remi Aboderin should the hoodlums they have mobilized unleash mayhem, vandalize, and steal government property within the premises of the national stadium under the guise of protest.
The leadership of the NBBofC which was registered as a social club, with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), has been trying to incite the boxing community against the board of the Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) since the latter had resolved to reform the sport in line with the vision and objectives of the National Sports Commission led by Mallam Shehu Dikko as Chairman and Hon. Bukola Olopade as its Director General (DG).
