The Federal Government of Nigeria has taken a significant step towards transforming Nigeria's sports landscape with the launch of the National Sports and Education Excellence Programme (N-SEEP).

This laudable ambitious initiative is designed to integrate elite sports development with quality education across the country.

The programme, unveiled by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, in collaboration with the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko and the Director General Honourable Bukola Olopade in attendance, will see nine tertiary institutions designated as National Sports and Education Centres of Excellence.

The initiative is aimed at creating a seamless pathway for talented student-athletes to pursue academic excellence while receiving world-class sports training, positioning sports as a strategic tool for economic growth, youth empowerment, and national development.

Implementation of the programme will begin with four institutions in the first phase, while the remaining centres will be activated in subsequent phases.

As part of the initiative, the selected institutions will establish Faculties of Sports Science offering globally benchmarked academic programmes designed to produce not only elite athletes but also coaches, sports scientists, administrators, physiotherapists, and other professionals required to strengthen Nigeria's sports ecosystem.

Speaking at the unveiling, the Minister of Education, Dr. Alausa, reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to building an education system that supports talent development alongside academic achievement, ensuring Nigerian youths can excel both in the classroom and on the field of play.

NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko described the programme as a landmark initiative that aligns with the Commission's vision of repositioning sports as a viable economic sector capable of creating jobs, attracting investment, and enhancing Nigeria's global sporting profile.

The National Sports and Education Excellence Programme is expected to provide a sustainable framework for nurturing the next generation of Nigerian sporting champions while equipping them with the education and skills needed for life beyond competition.
