Nasarawa Utd has turned me into 'super star' within Governors Forum - Gov Sule
The Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule has become an A rating governor within the Nigeria Governors Forum, courtesy of the performance of the state football teams, Nasarawa United and Nasarawa Amazons.
Governor Sule revealed this on Thursday while the management, officials and players of Nasarawa United paid him a Christmas visit at his Gudi hometown, Akwanga Local Government Area.
During the courtesy visit, the Governor expressed profound gratitude to the team for their sterling performances in the ongoing 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League, which have seen them hovering between the top-two positions, development he said has been bringing pride and distinction to the state.
"Let me wish you a Merry Christmas celebration and a prosperous New Year in advance.
"I am glad to say you have been making us all proud, and we will continue to be proud of you, too, which was why when the Commissioner told me he was here with you people, I didn't think twice before granting his request.
"Personally, I will forever be grateful for the positive image both you (Nasarawa United FC) and our Women's Team (Nasarawa Amazons), including privately-owned Basira FC who play in the 2nd Division League, have been giving to the State.
"I follow up with the constant commentary updates from our Media Head, Eche Amos, who keeps me on my seat with his professional and unique style of reporting of each game.
"I truly wonder how he is able to report minute-by-minute of each game. Sometimes, it's even very difficult following up on his updates because he is just too fast about what he does, which means he must be well-acquainted with his computer writing skill.
"Each time I am sitting among Governors in the Villa, with the Vice President and President of Nigeria, and we start talking about sports, then everybody would be looking at me, hoping that I would say something about Nasarawa United.
"Sometimes, they try to tease me about it, and I would respond with all pride that we are doing the best we can, and by God's grace, we will play in the Continent, by the way things are going", the Governor disclosed.
He also commended the Supporters' Clubs of the State's teams for their morale-boosting attitude, which, he added, has equally been responsible for the teams' current electric form in the elite domestic football league.
While reiterating his continued support to the Club and its members in order to exceed all expectations, the Governor donated bags of rice and cash to the team and its members to enable them celebrate the yuletide.
Leading the entourage, which comprised the club's management members, and a representative each from the technical and playing staff, the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, in his remarks, conveyed the team's appreciation for the Governor's unrelenting support and encouragement, which he noted had served as a potent catalyst for the their successes.
"Your Excellency, our presence here today is to reassure you that you are not alone in this journey of life.
"We are here to re-echo our commitment to stand with you shoulder-to-shoulder to enable you achieve your purposes for the State and humanity.
"Your birthday is a clear confirmation that you are older, wiser, and growing in divine wisdom.
"We are here to tap from these blessings of God upon your life, and it is our sincere prayer that everyone who is part of this visit will also benefit from your reservoir of blessings.
"We heartily congratulate you, and reaffirm our undiluted loyalty to you and your administration", the Commissioner began.
He appreciated the Governor for procuring brand new official vehicles for the management and Technical Adviser of Nasarawa United to ease their mobility challenges and fast track positive results, stressing that the vehicles have added pride and glory to the team and its members.
Kwanta also lauded the Governor's exemplary leadership, which he said, had endeared him to the hearts of the people of the State and beyond, as a champion of sports development and an insignia of hope for a brighter future, pledging to reward the benevolence of the Governor to the club.
Among the visiting delegation members were Team Manager, Adamu Musa Galle; Musa Usman Oruma (Board Member); Yakubu Buhari (Board Member); Umar Ibn Usman (Welfare Officer), Eche Amos (Director of Media); Danjuma Osungbole Doma(Camp Commandant); Professor Gills Nyanganji (Technical Aide to the Commissioner/Match Analyst); Mangut Mbwas (Technical Adviser), and King Osanga (Team Captain).
Second-placed Nasarawa United will be on the road for a match-day nineteen date with Kano Pillars in Kano on Sunday, 28th December, 2025, before the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League season proceeds on a mid-season break.
