Mikel further slams South Africa performance

Former Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel has further denigrated the performance of Bafana Bafana, declaring them as the worst among the African representatives at the 2026 World Cup.

Shortly after the South Africans struggled to a 1-1 draw against Czech Republic, Mikel decried the team's performance as un "African, it disappoints me to say this, but South Africa haven't been good enough."

Mikel later delivered a brutal assessment of Bafana Bafana's World Cup campaign:

"South Africa will be the first African team eliminated from this World Cup, and I don't think that's even up for debate anymore.

"I've watched them closely, and they simply haven't shown the quality, character, or discipline needed to survive at this level.

"At the World Cup, mistakes get punished, and South Africa have made far too many of them.

When you compare them to the other African teams in the tournament, the difference is clear.

The intensity isn't there, the belief isn't there, and the results reflect that.

"I was expecting Czech Republic to beat them comfortably today and bring an end to their World Cup campaign. It's disappointing to say as an African football supporter, but South Africa have been nowhere near good enough," the former Chelsea midfielder lamented.
