Kanu, Lookman ranked 1st, 7th in worst PL misses in history
Beautiful goals had been scored in the English Premier League history, yet there have been those considered worst, with 10 of them selected and two Nigerians are unfortunate to fall into this category.
Nwankwo Kanu was a big hit in the colours of Arsenal and on this list, his missed goal in the West Bromwich Albion match against Middlesbrough in 2004, according to Sean Cole, a freelance journalist with Four Four Two, in ranked number one.
Kanu's miss was indicative of the team's early struggles. Searching for a late equaliser, Geoff Horsfield fired the ball low across the face of goal and his strike partner awkwardly side-footed it up and over the bar.
Another Nigerian, Ademola Lookman is on number 7 of the worst missed goal is the penalty he failed to convert in the Fulham, West Ham game.
Another Nigerian but England international, Dele Alli's miss against Stoke City in 2016 comes 5th.
The former Everton man was left with an empty net to tap into, but couldn't do, slamming his effort against the post in a shameful act of finishing.
It was the first penalty of Lookman's career, with a chance to rescue a point in the 98th minute, and he tamely dinked the ball down the centre of the goal.
Cristiano Ronaldo's miss for Manchester United against Sheffield United in 2006 also got ignoble mention, ranking 6th amongst the worst.
Ryan Giggs' beautiful slide-rule pass took three defenders out of the game at Bramall Lane, with not even the goalkeeper to beat for Ronaldo. But the five-time Ballon d'Or winner lofted the ball over the crossbar.
Fernando Torres' missed goal for Chelsea against Manchester United in 2012 is on 10th with Raheem Sterling for Manchester City in 2018 against Burnley on 9th saw the England international collapsed on the goal line in frustration.
Sergio Aguero is another world class striker with eyes for goal but on this occasion in 2019 against Chelsea he added his name to the Premier League's worst misses back in 2019.
Bernardo Silva went around the houses as he danced around the Chelsea defence, leaving the Argentine international the simple task of tapping home past Kepa. A task too difficult for Aguero, the former Barcelona man couldn't even angle his shot on target, as his effort trickled past the post, much to the embarrassment of everyone inside the Etihad Stadium. He's on 4th.
