Grassroots players throughout Nigeria have been urged to maintain good conduct and ensure they behave appropriately as they pursue better opportunities ahead.
This advice was given by Wale Joseph, the Coordinator of the Jagaban Cup. The administrator and journalist made the remarks following the successful conclusion of a scouting tournament on Sunday morning.
The tournament was supported by 36 Lion Investment, Diamond Sports Management, Lagos Enigma, IFMM and the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA).
In his evaluation, Wale Joseph stated that the scouting tournament was exceptional and ranks among the best in Nigeria. Commenting on the caliber of players that took part, he noted that many displayed the necessary attributes to succeed in football.
"Essentially, I assess their fighting spirit, character, speed, and techniques. The boys possess the fundamentals and mindset to thrive. In addition to these traits, attitude is crucial; one may be highly skilled and talented, but without the right attitude, establishing oneself as a footballer will be challenging," emphasized the CEO of the Lagos State League.
More than just a tournament, Jagaban Cup has evolved into a defining platform where dreams meet opportunity, and where the future of Nigerian football is shaped in real time.
At the heart of the competition lies a clearly defined philosophy, talent discovery, driven by merit, exposure, and professionalism. The philosophy is further strengthened by the tournament’s deliberate alignment with global football standards.
Jagaban Cup mirrors the environment of professional football. For many players, it serves as their first real taste of elite-level expectations, preparing them mentally, tactically, and physically for the demands of the global game.
The competition also thrives as a networking ecosystem. Coaches, agents, and football administrators converge, creating opportunities that extend far beyond the final whistle. For teams and academies, it is not just about winning silverware, but about building relationships that can shape careers and institutions alike.
Broad City defeated the unexpected contenders, Klassisch 1-0 to claim victory in the final.
FC Bethel secured third place by overcoming Ikorodu City 4-2 in a penalty shootout, after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
The four-day event took place at the Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.
