...Bassey misses seater, sees yellow

Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi delivered a moment of brilliance in a pulsating London derby, scoring a spectacular goal to take the Cottagers to ninth position on the table.

However, his fellow Nigerian, Calvin Bassey not only missed an opportunity to score the third goal for Fulham, he ended up been shown a yellow.

Iwobi was instrumental as Fulham secured all three points in the Round 28 clash of the Premier League, producing a strike that stood out as the defining moment of the encounter.

With the score finely poised, the Nigerian international received a well-weighted pass on the edge of the box, shifted the ball onto his right foot and unleashed a curling effort from a tight angle that flew into the bottom corner.

The technique and precision of the finish immediately caught the attention of pundits covering the match.

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Glenn Hoddle, speaking on Premier League Productions, was full of admiration for the execution of the strike.

“What a goal this is from Alex Iwobi - from that angle, you get a curl on it. It’s got to go outside the post but this has gone straight as an arrow,” Hoddle said, highlighting the unusual trajectory and accuracy that left the goalkeeper with no chance.

Former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison also praised the technical excellence behind the finish, noting that Iwobi opted for precision over power in a situation where many players would have chosen a different approach.

“That is an amazing goal. Normally when you score from there you drive it with your laces - he’s actually placed it away from the goalkeeper,” Hutchison added.

The strike proved decisive as Fulham held on to secure a hard-fought 2-1 win, with Harry Wilson scoring Fulham’s opening goal in the 7th minute.

Tottenham’s lone goal was scored by Richarlison, who pulled one back in the 66th minute with a close-range header.

Fulham came mighty close to a third just before the break as Calvin Bassey lifted over a shot from no more than 10 yards out after Vicario missed the punch on a corner, with Spurs’ resolve increasingly fragile.

The jubilant scenes in the home end as Fulham rose to ninth, five points off of Chelsea in sixth, were a stark contrast to those affiliated with a club now deep in a relegation battle.
