Hockey National Super League 'll be best ever - Osuoha

The Secretary of the Nigeria Hockey Federation of Nigeria (HFN), Chinedu Osuoha has assured that 2024 Hockey National Super League will be one of the best ever.

Speaking at the Murtala Square Hockey pitch in Kaduna, he said the league now had 13 male teams and 10 female teams

He disclosed that the winner( first in male and first in female) will represent Nigeria in the Africa club championship 2024 in December but that they are yet to know the host.

On the reason for picking Kaduna as the venue, he said; "We have been organising the competition in Abuja. We brought it to Kaduna for three reasons. One, the president of Hockey federation, Engineer Simon Ikom is from Kaduna ,so we want to please him, secondly, the Police bi annual completion will hold in Kaduna, so we want to use it as a test and thirdly, it's becoming monotonous always hosting it in Abuja".

"Our doors are open to any sponsor as government alone can no longer run. We are looking out for individuals and corporate bodies to come partner with us," said Osuoha.

On national team, he said the tournament will help scout for new talents.

"At the moment our female National team is second in Africa while the male is 4th in Africa and 15th in the world. We want to do well at the next year's African championship so we can pick a Commonwealth ticket," he added.

The National Hockey Super League runs from July 20 to 27.
