Gov Uzodinma hooks Idoko for Heartland rescue mission
With relegation starring Heartland FC of Owerri in the face, Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma has contracted former Lobi Stars vice chairman, Mike Okpe Idoko on a rescue mission.
The erstwhile Sunshine Stars General Manager, www.sportsunlimited.ng gathered was in Owerri on the invitation of Governor Uzodinma last week on the possibility of taking over the helms of affairs of the Naze Millionaires.
Although discussion between Idoko and Governor Uzodinma was said to have been fruitful, it wasn't concluded before the team travelled for the game against Katsina United.
According to a source privy to the development, the likely position for Idoko would be decided before Wednesday's match.
Heartland has endured a torrid 2023/2024 NPFL season, sitting precarious on the base of the 20-team standings with a potential risk of a possible third relegation to the second tier league, NNL.
However, it was gathered that Governor Uzodinma is ready to anything including financially to ensure the team did not go down for the second time in his regime as Imo State governor.
The match in Katsina was for Idoko to be familiar with the team before the final agreement with the government expected before Wednesday.
Idoko is expected to fully take charge of Heartland in an Oriental Derby clash against Abia Warriors at the Awka City Stadium transit home ground.
"Mike Idoko has joined us. He was part of the traveling contingent to Katsina United. We came close to winning the game if not for the controversial penalty kick the referee awarded against us late into the added time after he had denied us a much more clearer penalty kick", an official of the club confirmed.
