Gold Cup 2026: Ikorodu City, Inter Lagos share spoils in derby

The Lagos Derby in the 14th edition of the Gold Cup Pre-season Tournament lived up to expectations, ending in a 1-1 draw between Ikorodu City and Inter Lagos in the final fixture of MatchDay 1 at MKO Abiola Sports Arena on Thursday.

Ikorodu City challenged Inter Lagos' defence right from the start, creating a few scoring chances in the early stages.

Faruq Salami's solo effort, where he dribbled past three defenders before unleashing a powerful shot into the top corner of the net, gave Ikorodu City a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute.

Despite some half-chances, Inter Lagos couldn't convert, and the first half concluded with Ikorodu City leading.

Both teams emerged strongly after halftime. The introduction of Yusuf by Inter Lagos proved effective, as he equalised in the 68th minute with a precise chip over a rushing defender, beating the goalkeeper and earning his team a point.

Action continues on Friday with interesting MatchDay 2 fixtures.
