Fenerbahçe protests against Osimhen wearing facemask
Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen may be forced to play without his trademark facemask in over three years, as Fenerbahçe has made an official request to the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) to stop the Nigerian from wearing it in the Istanbul Derby.
Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahçe will host Galatasaray in the epic clash at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium on Saturday.
The request from Fenerbahçe is coming from what transpired in Galatasaray's game against Rizespor after the Nigerian had a head collision with Rizespor defender Khusnidden Alikulov.
Alikulov, who suffered a facial fracture, was left with a broken cheekbone, his scan informed on Monday.
Recall Osimhen had given reasons why he must wear his facemask when playing.
"I have to wear a mask for the rest of my career because I have screws in my chin and face. In our last match against Cagliari, when I headed the ball, I had blood on my face. Even with the mask on, it's really dangerous for me to play without a mask."
