Following the conclusion of the regular Division One season, the NLO has revealed the commencement of the remodelled NLO Cup.

This tournament aims to keep clubs active and competitive during the off-season, preventing players from extended periods of inactivity.

Dr. Olushola Ogunnowo, the Chief Operating Officer, shared more details about the revamped NLO Cup with the media channel of Nigeria's third-tier league.

"The NLO Cup aspires to high goals, offering financial incentives for clubs through Return on Investment (ROI) and providing a platform to identify emerging talent.

"By involving both foreign scouts and local/international agents, the tournament facilitates player transfers that benefit clubs financially and gives top talents international exposure.

"The NLO continues to be a key part of Nigeria's football calendar, serving as a pathway to domestic leagues, national teams, and European opportunities."

Dr. Ogunnowo noted that the NLO has become more attractive to high-net-worth individuals and businesses seeking prestige.

The 2026 edition will start with regional matches, played across designated zones to minimise travel. Zone winners will meet at a central venue for the final playoff to crown the champion.

To maximise global visibility, all matches will be live-streamed worldwide on digital platforms.

Details about registration fees, zonal groupings, and the full schedule will be announced soon through official NLO channels. All clubs are encouraged to participate, keeping their squads match-ready and providing players a chance to advance internationally.
