Chelsea to meet Napoli, wants discount on Osimhen deal
Chelsea has scheduled a meeting with Napoli with a view of getting a discount on Nigeria star, Victor Osimhen.
SportingSun sourced from La Gazetta dello Sports that the Premier League club who is front-runner in the race to capture Osimhen, wants Napoli to bring down the price tag of the Nigerian ahead of the summer transfer window.
Two reports on Monday made it clear that Chelsea was still very much in the mix for Osimhen, explaining that it had planned a summit this week to discuss a €100m move.
Gazzetta explained that Napoli is already looking at Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez as a replacement for Osimhen, who is being targeted by Chelsea and Paris Saint Germain.
The Nigerian striker has a release clause between €120-130m in his current contract and it’s said the two clubs are ready to pay that if it is necessary.
However, they are first ‘studying a strategy’ to get to the Nigerian and weighing up the possibility of including a player in the deal to lower the cash part of the negotiation. In other words, they want to try and bring his price tag down and get themselves a discount.
Napoli is aware of the interest and moving themselves, eyeing up Gimenez and also Lille’s Jonathan David as replacements in what should be a big summer of change given their poor title defence this season.
Napoli’s plan is to heavily reinvest the money from Osimhen around the squad to strengthen it in several areas and so it seems unlikely it will be willing to offer any discounts or bring that release clause figure down.
Chelsea is going to try either way and that summit this week could be the one in which the two parties lay out their terms and see where they can go from there.
