Kylian Mbappe scored twice as Paris Saint-Germain safely booked a passage into the quarter-finals of the Champions League at the expense of Real Sociedad Tuesday evening.

The winger, who is set to leave the French capital this summer, courted controversy at the weekend when he was substituted at half time, and duly changed out of his kit and sat in the stands with family to watch the remainder of the match, rather than on the bench with his teammates.

However, he was front and centre on the pitch on the night, netting either side of half time to secure a 2-1 win for PSG on the day, and a 4-1 aggregate triumph over the Spanish opposition.

The brace took the World Cup winner up to 46 goals from just 69 games in the competition, moving him level with the legendary Eusebio and Filippo Inzaghi in the all-time list.

Mbappe has reached that tally in 12 games fewer than former Juventus and AC Milan man Inzaghi too, although he took four games more than ex-Benfica talisman Eusebio.
Only 11 players have now scored more European Cup or Champions League goals than Mbappe, and he is only two goals away from making it into the top 10, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Andriy Shevchenko next in his sights.

There was a goal for another of the Champions League 40-goal club on Tuesday night too as Bayern Munich's Thomas Muller scored for the 54th time in the competition, moving just two short of Ruud van Nistelrooy in the all-time standings.
