The basketball and Nigerian school sports communities is in mourning following the death of Mallam Yakubu Dauda, the revered Head Basketball Coach of Ahmadiyya College Kano.
For decades, Mallam Dauda stood as a pillar of grassroots basketball development, dedicating his life to shaping young talents and instilling discipline both on and off the court.
His name became synonymous with excellence at the Nestlé Milo Secondary Schools Basketball Championship, where Ahmadiyya College, under his guidance since 1999, consistently ranked among the nation’s top teams.
As National Coordinator of the championship, the National Collegiate Sports Foundation paid glowing tribute to a man whose commitment went far beyond wins and trophies.

His impact stretched across institutions and communities, earning him deep respect within the Kano State Basketball Association and the Nigeria Schools Sports Federation, where his contributions helped elevate school sports development nationwide.
In a heartfelt condolence message, sympathies were extended to his family, the management and students of Ahmadiyya College, and the wider basketball fraternity.
