Akor Adams on his goals for Sevilla, says 'the team needed me'
Nigerian striker, Akor Adams expressed his delight after playing a decisive role in Sevilla’s dramatic 2-2 draw against Elche on Monday night, scoring both goals after coming off the bench.
The 25-year-old forward had only returned to Spain on Sunday following his involvement with the Super Eagles at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations but wasted no time in making his presence felt.
Elche appeared to be cruising after taking a two-goal lead, with Aleix Febas opening the scoring in the first half before Germán Valera doubled their advantage in the 55th minute.
Sevilla struggled to break down their hosts until the head coach introduced Adams at halftime, a move that would dramatically change the course of the match.
Adams pulled one back for Sevilla with a close-range finish 15 minutes from time, giving the visitors renewed belief. The striker then completed the comeback dramatically by calmly converting a penalty deep into stoppage time to salvage a crucial point.
Speaking after the match, Adams highlighted his satisfaction with both his personal contribution and the team’s fighting spirit.
“I came back for the match after a long tournament,” Adams told mundodeportivo.com.
He continued, “The team needed me, and it’s good that the coach gave me minutes to energize the team and get the draw.”
Despite the impressive comeback, the Nigerian international felt Sevilla had done enough to claim all three points.
“I think we let a few small details slip. We played a good game that we should normally have won. Elche is a good team, but we had many chances and I think we could have won,” he said
Adams also stressed his commitment to Sevilla, revealing that he closely followed the team’s matches while away on international duty.
“The most important thing is the team. I’ve watched all the games while I’ve been away, and the results weren’t what we wanted. We managed a draw, I scored, and I’m very happy for the team. We’re focused on what’s next,” he added.
