Agu-Ejidike salutes D'Tigress for securing quarterfinal berth

The Nigeria's Pillar of Sports, Chief Donatus Agu-Ejidike JP has hailed the senior national women Basketball team, the D'Tigress over their historic victory over Canada that gave them the ticket to the quarter finals at the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympics Games.

The Anambra-born Sports philanthropist gave the commendation on Sunday in an interaction with a group of journalists in Ilorin, shortly after the coach Rena Wakama-tutored side overcame their Canadian counterparts 79-70, thus becoming the first African basketball team (male or female), to qualify for the Olympics quarter finals.

The Nnewi-born business mogul also reserves some praises for the technical crew who handle the team, saying their tactical savviness tells on the results the team have recorded so far at the ongoing event. He added that, for team ranked 12th, in the world, to defeat FIBA’s 3rd and 5th ranked teams says it all about the focus and hardworking the team is expending on this Olympic.

Chief Agu-Ejidike, who also doubles as the National patron of the Nigerian Football Supporters Club (NFSC) urged the entire team not to rest on their oars, saying they could actually go all the way to lift the gold medal.

It would be recalled that, the D'Tigress in their first match defeated Australia 75-62 - their first victory in 20 years. They then lost to France with a 75-54 score line, before the historic second victory against Canada. Later in the day, Australia defeated France 79-72 in the other group match. In other quarter-final games, Serbia will play Australia, Spain will take on Belgium, France will battle it out, and Germany will also battle it out.
