A former Nigeria international, Abdul Sule, has revealed plan to organise a football tournament to honour Alhaji Shehu Usman Aliyu, the DanMalikin Hausa.

Speaking to journalists in Kaduna at the first press briefing concerning the championship, Abdul Sule said the tournament was put together to honour Alhaji Shehu Usman Aliyu, the DanMalikin Hausa.

According him, Alhaji Usman Aliyu is a renowned philanthropist, grassroots developer, a silent achiever and lover of youth empowerment

"The tournament is therefore to honour a renowned philanthropist, grassroots developer, a silent achiever and lover of youth empowerment, Alhaji Shehu Usman Aliyu, the DanMalikin Hausa. It's our own way of appreciating him and saying thank you for all he has been doing. He has been relentless in his quest to the development of his environment and empowering the youths, especially through sports," he said.

"Everything is set for this championship and eight teams will be taking part in DanMalikin Hausa Cup which is the inaugural one."

The football competition promises to be an exciting event, with eight teams vying for top honors and prizes.

Alhaji Aliyu, who is also the Special Adviser to Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, is also known for his keen interest in empowering youths through sports.

According to chairman of the Main Organising Committee, Abdul Sule, the Cup tourney which will be in knockout format is expected to set high bar for future events.

Sule, a former Stationary Stores of Lagos player, who spent most of his playing career in Denmark, disclosed that talented players from the tournament would be selected for foreign scouting tour later in the year.

Abdul Sule added that "this competition is expected to be fierce, with fantastic prizes at stake for the top scorer, most valuable player, and best goalkeeper to recognise individual excellence and add an extra layer of excitement to the tournament.

"We have also promised a memorable experience for all the participating teams as each team will be getting soccer balls and other souvenirs.

The championship kicks off on June 17 at Adeyemo College, Marafa, Kaduna and the final of the tournament is expected to take place on June 23 at the same venue.
