2nd NDGs: Team Edo delivers In Athletics, advance to quarter finals In Basketball

Team Edo continues with it's impressive run in the ongoing second Niger Delta Games in Benin as they make good harvest of gold in athletics, parapoe ER lifting and as well edging close to podium finish in the female Basketball event.

On the second day of the competition, Edo female Basketball team beat Delta 20-18 to advance to the quarter finals stage . They had earlier dismantled Team Abia 47- 6 in their opening match.

In the track and field events, Osawe Salami put up a strong showing in the men’s 400m Hurdles, finishing in a time of 51.73 seconds .

In the field events, Rebecca Njoku clinched gold in the women’s Hammer with an impressive 30.20m throw. Emmanuel Chakamumudu also secured gold in the men’s Hammer, recording a massive 41.57m throw to edge out David Bosa of Team Delta, who settled for silver, while Goodnews Musa of Rivers claimed bronze.

Chakamumudu had secured his first gold medal in the Shot-put event.

In Para Powerlifting, Nicholas Ojomah won gold in the 72kg category, ahead of Abia (Silver) and Imo (Bronze).

Favour Imasuen increased the medal tally with a silver medal in the women’s Hammer, after a distant throw of 24.60m.

In Taekwondo, Emmanuel Ogbevoen clinched gold in men's 68kg category after a brilliant performance in the combat sport.

In the Chess Male Rapid category, Nwachukwu John of Rivers State emerged champion to claim gold. Team Edo’s Osayande Kingsley delivered a strong performance to secure silver, while Evbuomwam Henry Oghogho earned bronze.

In the Female Rapid category, Omoruyi Sandra Osarugue of Edo State clinched gold. Nwankwo Michelle Chiamaka of Abia State took silver, while Effiom Esther Erin of Cross River State settled for bronze.

Meanwhile, in the Handball Male category, Team Edo recorded a convincing 25–17 victory over Rivers State. Blessing Osagiede Abies also defeated her Akwa Ibom opponent to advance to the quarterfinals in the 67kg category.
