15 Super Eagles now in Uyo camp

A total of 15 players are now in the Super Eagles’ Uyo camp as they prepare for the World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin.

According to the new Media Officer of the team, Promise Efoghe, 13 players trained Sunday morning but by the afternoon two more players arrived to swell the number of players in camp to 15.

After the afternoon training, Efoghe said the players took time to watch the football match organised by the team’s vice caption, William Troost-Ekong Foundation before returning to their Ibom Golf Resort Hotel.

Expectedly, the head coach, Finidi George and his assistants supervised the training sessions.

The duo of Bayer Leverkusen forward, Victor Boniface and Club Brugge midfielder, Raphael Onyedika joined the camp early on Sunday morning.

Early arrivals included Tanzania-based defender, Benjamin Tanimu, Enyimba goalkeeper Olorunleke Ojo, and Çaykur Rizespor star, Ibrahim Olawoyin. Rangers left back Kenneth Igboke and Remo Stars right wing back, Ismail Sadiq joined on Saturday morning.

AC Milan’s Samuel Chukwueze, Chippa United’s Stanley Nwabali, and Hatayspor’s Fisayo Dele-Bashiru are also in camp.

Nigeria will play South Africa’s Bafana Bafana at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday, June 7, followed by a match against Benin Republic in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on Monday, June 10. The duo of Chidozie Awaziem and Alhassan Yusuf joined the team for the afternoon training.

Those still being expected are returnee Maduka Okoye, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey, Frank Onyeka, Alex Iwobi, Paul Onuachu and Ademola Lookman.

Nigeria is currently third in Group C with two points from two matches, trailing leaders Rwanda by two points and South Africa by one. The group winner after ten matches will qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
