Nigeria’s Pillar of Sports, Chief Donatus Agu-Ejidike (JP), has applauded the Super Eagles of Nigeria, for their emphatic 4–1 victory over Gabon in Thursday’s World Cup playoff clash in Rabat, Morocco, describing the performance as a statement of intent and a proud moment for the nation.
He gave the applause, during a chat shortly after the match, in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Chief Ejidike commended the players and technical crew for “showing character, hunger, and the Nigerian winning spirit,” noting that the result reflects the team’s growing cohesion and resilience.
He, however, reminded the team that “the real battle is still ahead,” urging them to remain fully focused as they prepare for Sunday’s decisive clash against DR Congo. It would be recalled that, the Congolese team defeated their Cameroonian counterparts in the other semi final, thus earning the right to slug it out in the final, to vie for intercontinental final.
“The job is not finished. What lies ahead will demand even greater discipline, determination, and unity,” Ejidike said, charging the Eagles to shut out distractions and approach the final with total commitment.
He expressed confidence that with the same fighting spirit and national pride displayed against Gabon, the Super Eagles are well-positioned to finish the mission and make Nigerians proud once again.
Akor Adams, Chidera Ejuke and Victor Osimhen (a brace), accounted for the goals, while Osimhen's Galatasaray team mate, Mario Lemina scored an equaliser-turned consolation for DR Congo, that smothered their maiden World Cup appearance hopes
