There was competition in Super Eagles during Westerholf's era - Akinseinde
By Vincent Akinbami, Kaduna
Former international, Akin Akinseinde said Clemence Westerholf ensured that there was competition among national team players as he gave both local and international players opportunity to showcase their talents.
He added that every department had players competing for roles.
Citing himself and Rashidi as an example, Akinseinde the competition was fierce, stating that any time Rashidi scored, he also try to score if introduced into the game. "This makes Rashidi to always want to give his best."
"Any time Rashidi hears about my scoring ability he normally made him to come back smoking."
Akinseinde stressed that he was always not happy that Yekini was always invited for all the matches, adding that the fact that he too was always scoring made Rashidi to always want to give his best.
Commenting on the present Super Eagles striking position, Akinseinde pick Victor Osimhen as the only striker that could make the team of their era.
"Osimeh style of play suits the Super Eagles. Victor Boniface would have fits in easily but he's always angry, he gets frustrated easily. Other strikes too are good but their style is a problem.
He urge the national team selectors to bring about competition in the team aside from the technical input.
Akinseinde had a notable career, winning the 1991-92 Nigeria FA Cup with El-Kanemi Warriors F.C. and playing abroad with SK Rapid Wien, First Vienna FC, Akhaa Ahli Aley FC, and Zamalek SC.
