SAAC: Amusan, a positive influence in my career — Tabugbo
A member of Team Nigeria at the Senior African Athletics Championships, Adaobi Tabugbo, has described world record holder Tobi Amusan as a true friend and a major positive influence on her career.
Adaobi Tabugbo said following in the footsteps of the world champion gives her the push she needs to keep striving for greater heights.
She added that Amusan has always been someone she looked up to, describing it as a privilege to compete alongside her.
“Tobi is more of a blessing than she knows to me. I’ve always looked up to her and I’m happy to have her in my space,” she said.
Amusan delivered Nigeria’s first gold medal of the championships after winning the women’s 100m hurdles final, while Adaobi Tabugbo clinched bronze to secure her first individual medal for the country. Ashley Miller prevented Nigeria from securing a 1 and 2 positions.
For Adaobi, the medal meant everything she had dreamed of, and she said she is already looking ahead to the Commonwealth Games, where she hopes to make her mark.
She said preparations for the Games would begin early, stressing that success in Glasgow would require hard work, commitment and the support of her teammates.
“Right now it means everything to me. I’m so grateful. God is so good. I’ll be very prepared for the Commonwealth Games because it’s so early in the season and I understand,” she said.
She also praised the atmosphere in camp, describing the team spirit as lively and encouraging.
“The spirit within the camp is great. I love being around the team. It is so jovial. I just want to be around them,” she added.
