The teenager joins Leipzig from Slovakian top-flight outfit AS Trenčin, for whom he registered 16 goals and seven assists in 59 competitive appearances.

Sani, who started his career at Nigerian side Akwa United and represented his country at the FIFA U-20 World Cup last October, is Leipzig’s first signing of the January transfer window.

“In Suleman Sani, we’ve signed a highly talented young winger,” said Marcel Schäfer, Leipzig’s managing director for sport. “He has an exciting profile and all the attributes needed to take the next steps in his development at RB Leipzig.

“Bringing Suleman in now is a move made with the summer in mind, as the opportunity arose to secure him on a permanent deal. We’ll give him the time he needs to settle in the Bundesliga and are very much looking forward to our time together.”

Sani added: “Moving to RB Leipzig is a big step for me, and something I’m extremely proud of. I’m particularly impressed by how the club develops young players, puts their faith in them and supports them.

“I’m looking forward to learning every day in a highly professional environment, continuing to develop and giving everything for the team. I can’t wait to pull on the Leipzig shirt for the first time.”

Sani will wear the number 18 shirt at the Red Bull Arena.
