Monimichelle faults Gov Diri on Bayelsa Utd overhaul
The Chief Executive Officer of Monimichelle Sports, Ebi Egbe, has raised questions over Governor Douye Diri’s decision to sack all Bayelsa United players and coaches following the club’s relegation from the NPFL.
According to the concerns raised, such a blanket action could be seen as direct government interference in the management of a professional football club.
"While Bayelsa United’s relegation remains a major disappointment for supporters and stakeholders, a complete overhaul should be based on a detailed assessment of the club’s entire structure.
"The review should consider administration, funding, recruitment strategy, technical decisions, player welfare, and the effectiveness of the management system rather than placing the entire blame on players and coaches alone.
"In football, success and failure are collective responsibilities involving management, technical staff, players, and those responsible for supervision and policy decisions.
"Therefore, removing only the team personnel while other areas of the club remain unchanged creates questions about whether the real issues have been properly addressed," he posited.
Egbe believes that Bayelsa United needs a professional rebuilding process focused on sustainable growth, stronger structures, and better football administration rather than decisions driven only by the emotions of relegation.
