The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Wale Edun, has indicated interest in contesting for the position of President of the Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF).

The Minister, it was gathered, has already obtained the nomination form.

The NBF has been engulfed with internal wranglings and power play for some time now.

Most recently, the Federation's Interim President, Ovie Omo-Agege, was said to have accused a former board member, Adura Olalehin, and the Secretary-General, Olalekan Faseesin, of working on leading a team to the World Boxing Tournament without proper authorisation.

Olalehin was accused of secretly registering the team for the Tournament without the knowledge or permission of the NBF board and President.

According to sources, Olalehin who was involved in a doping scandal at the 2024 Olympic Games in France was planning to lead the team as a coach and also as NBF President.

Furthermore, Omo-Agege accused both Olalehin and Faseesin of using the influence of NBF to secure UK visas for some unidentified boxers to represent Nigeria at the Boxing World Cup in Liverpool from September 4 to 14.
