Lobi Stars coach gives up on league title
By Vincent Akinbami
The coach of Lobi Stars, Eugene Aghagbe has given up on the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
He came to the conclusion after his team's slim 3-2 defeat to Niger Tornadoes in a Week 38 game at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna on Wednesday.
According to Aghagbe, with the placing of Lobi Stars on the log, it's practically impossible to expect the team to win the NPFL title.
The coach also doubts his team finishing in the top three at the end of the season.
"There are a lot of teams with more points ahead of Lobi Stars.
"Making the top three will be difficult because we have many teams with more points than Lobi Stars and with just two games to go, it will be difficult," the coach said.
He added that Lobi Stars lost the battle for top three because of internal wrangling
"We have already lost the contest for top three. We had internal wrangling, our boys went in strike but all the same, we thank God for the season.
"We will go back and work hard for a new season. This season is gone, so we can't talk about it again. We just play and maintain where we are now," he added.
Coach Aghagbe however said he was happy with the slim 3-2 loss to Niger Tornadoes.
"We thank God for the game, it was a pressure game. Initially, the referees was not all that fair in the first half but later, he adjusted and officiated well, allowing the game to flow and the game went well, it was not a bad game," he concluded.
