Hayatou death a huge loss - Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu has described the passing of President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Issa Hayatou who passed away at 77 on August 8, as a huge loss, underlining his contributions to the development of the sport in Africa and beyond.
According to a statement issued by Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, the President expressed his condolences extended his sympathies to legendary football administrator’s family, the Cameroonian Football Federation, and the wider African football community, describing Hayatou's contributions to the sport as monumental.
Hayatou, who also served as acting FIFA President, was a pivotal figure in African football for nearly three decades, leading CAF from 1988 until 2017.
Hayatou was also one-time acting President of FIFA - the world's football governing body.
The President prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed and strength to his family at this difficult time.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino also mourned Hayatou, highlighting his dedication to sports administration.
