England absolutely obliterated France with a stunning performance in the first half that makes many wonder "What if" after the semi-final heartbreak against Argentina.

But France fought back in the second half with Kylian Mbappe and Barcola starting France's recovery.

Les Bleus never really looked up for the third-place play-off but the Three Lions have still been absolutely clinical.

Declan Rice, who replaces Harry Kane as captain, opened the scoring after only three minutes with a beautiful long-range shot following a massive error by Desire Doue, who gave the ball away in his own half.

Rice turned from scorer to provider just 15 minutes later as his corner-kick found Ezri Konsa, who beat Adrien Rabiot in the air and headed the ball past France goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

And finally the 24-year-old made it four in the first minute of stoppage time after a brilliant through ball by Eberechi Eze that allowed him to beat the AC Milan keeper with ease.

In the second half, France started recovery journey with three goals.

On 54th minute, Mbappe releases Barcola with a brilliant through ball in midfield and the PSG star beats Henderson beautiful from the left.

The France superstar's goal makes him this year's top scorer at the World Cup with nine.

That also marks the star forward's best ever World Cup return sine his debut in 2018.

And the 27-year-old has tied Messi's all-time record in the competition with 21.

Mbappe scored another in the 66th minute to raced ahead of Messi as the player with the most goals in the World Cup history on 22 goals.

Five minutes to regulation time, Saka completed his hat trick and England's fifth goal from the penalty spot but Ousmane Dembele scored France's fourth goal only for Bellingham to seal the game for England in the 6th minute of added time.
