... Says 'it's a huge challenge for me. It is a great club with rich history and high ambitions
Former Nigeria U20 manager Aliyu Zubair has been appointed as the new head coach of Sudanese league giants, Al Ahli Madani on a two-year contract.
He takes over from Farouk Jabra and becomes the latest Nigerian coach to take charge on the African continent.
Zubair’s appointment comes hours after he confirmed his mutual departure from Egyptian second-tier side, Telecom SC, where he enjoyed a successful spell and helped the club make notable progress in domestic competitions.
The tactician leaves Egypt with his reputation further enhanced.
Speaking after sealing his move to Sudan, the highly rated Nigerian coach described the opportunity as another major step in his career.
"Al Ahli Madani is another huge challenge for me. It is a great club with rich history and high ambitions. I am looking forward to working with the players, the management and the fans to achieve our objectives, especially as the team prepare to compete in the CAF Confederation Cup," Zubair said.
At Al Ahli Madani, Zubair will be tasked with leading the Sudanese heavyweights in both domestic competitions and the CAF Confederation Cup, where the club will be aiming to make a strong impression on the continental stage. The two-year deal gives him time to build a project.
The move represents another significant milestone for Zubair, whose coaching résumé continues to grow across Africa. The gaffer has previously managed Wikki Tourists, Gombe United and Elkanemi Warriors in the Nigeria Premier Football League, before taking his expertise to North Africa with Telecom SC.
With a rich history and ambitious fanbase, Al Ahli Madani will expect Zubair to stabilize the team domestically while also pushing for progress in the CAF Confederation Cup. His experience with youth and senior teams in Nigeria and Egypt will be key as he begins work immediately.
