Edo State Cricket Association , Sunday, December 21 closed their 2025 calendar year with veterans match (T10 Red Ball and White Jerseys) between Okonobo XI and Edebiri XI which the later won by 18 runs.
Edebiri XI scored 88 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 10 overs while Okonobo XI scored 70 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 10 overs. Edebiri XI won by 18 runs.
The closing ceremony which had the Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Digital Economy Hon. Ohimai Ehijimetor, performing school principals, Edo cricket festival teams and other Stakeholders in attendance saw the leadership of the Sport Association distributing gift box of different sizes including foot items to over 200 active and performing school principals, coaches, game master and others in acknowledgement of their contributions to the growth of Cricket in Edo State.
The Christmas gifts,' Chairman's Christmas Package', according to the vice chairman of Edo State Cricket Association, Abraham Oviawe Esq.is a benevolent practice introduced by the Chairman, Edo State Cricket Association and President Nigeria Cricket Federation Dr Uyi Akpata.
" It is a commitment our chairman has taken upon himself and we have been doing this for over decade. It is a platform we have created for veterans; those that have played the game of cricket for Edo State and the country to exercise themselves and to be remembered. It is also an opportunity for us to share the joy of Christmas festival with critical Stakeholders. We believe that players, coaches and all those that have laboured throughout the year should be rewarded,hence the practice of chairman's Christmas package."
"This year,we listed 200 persons for the chairman's package and it is meant to appreciate all Stakeholders and to keep the partnership for ever," Oviawe said.
Meanwhile, the 2025 Edo Cricket League ended on Sunday,November 30,2025 with Invictus Cricket Club as champions after a dominant and fine run in the men T20 tournament.
The new Edo Cricket champions finished as best team with 12 points after losing just a match in the seven matches played.
In the female league which ended earlier,Ekpoma Supernova emerged champions.
