Bassey, Iwobi get high praise despite Fulham defeat

Fulham lost the Premiership game Saturday night but the Nigerian duo of Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi gave a good account of themselves, reports www.sportsunlimited.ng.

It was described as one of the most frustrating defeats of the campaign but Fulham drastically improved from the poor performance at Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.

Per performance rating, the highest from any Fulham player is 7/10 and Bassey makes the cut alongside goalkeeper Bernd Leno, Timothy Castagne, Tosin Adarabioyo, Joao Palhinha and Tom Cairney.

"Bassey wasn’t as prominent as he has been in previous weeks but that was because Fulham did an excellent job of taking the game to their opponents. Used the ball intelligently and kept the home side going forward where possible in a display that emphasised the Nigerian’s status as Fulham’s leading left-sided centre back," one pundit sums up the Super Eagles defender's performance.

On Iwobi, he says " Iwobi made a bright start, troubling the highly-rated Lewis Hall with a combination of pace and invention, but couldn’t ultimately unlock the Newcastle defence. Prompted plenty of openings from his initial wide right role, but was less effective in the number ten role following Silva’s second half substitutions," and he was rated 6/10.
