Amokachi wins N52m case against Lobi Stars
Former Nigeria international, Daniel Amokachi has won his appeal against the unjustifiable termination of his contract and that of his Dutch assistant by the management of Lobi Stars.
The decision was contained in official release by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) of the long-awaited decisions of its Players’ Status and Arbitration Committee (PSAC), nearly 60 days after the committee sat in Abuja between December 2 and 6, 2025.
The release ends weeks of apprehension among clubs, coaches and players over the delay, with the cases spanning illegal termination of contracts, unpaid salaries, severance entitlements and player ownership disputes.
In total, over 80 cases were decided, with parties given 45 days from receipt of the rulings to comply or face sanctions.
The most significant ruling involved former Super Eagles assistant coach Daniel Amokachi and his assistant, Mika Lönnström.
PSAC ordered Nigeria Premier Football League side Lobi Stars to pay a total of ₦52 million, alongside €1,800 for travel and visa expenses, following the club’s unilateral termination of their contracts.
According to the committee, Lobi Stars had earlier admitted their indebtedness in a letter dated March 31, 2025. Failure to comply within 45 days will result in a transfer ban until full payment is made.
Some of the highlight of PSAC Decisions
Anthony Michael Adoyi vs Niger Tornadoes FC:
Niger Tornadoes were ordered to pay ₦1.35 million in outstanding salaries for unilaterally terminating Adoyi’s contract. The club was also fined ₦500,000, with a transfer ban looming if it defaults.
Mojisola Adekanye vs Ekiti Queens FC:
Ekiti Queens were ordered to pay ₦4.75 million, representing the unexpired portion of the contract, and fined ₦1 million for wrongful termination.
Chibunna Eze Ambrose vs Heartland FC:
Heartland were ordered to pay ₦5 million in compensation for unpaid salaries, with sanctions to apply if the club fails to comply.
Osia Felix Ovia vs Heartland FC:
Heartland were also ordered to pay ₦7 million to Ovia for breach of contract.
James Tariah Tobi & Samuel Omoariyo vs Abakaliki FC:
The claims were dismissed after PSAC found no evidence of a signed contract. An appeal may be lodged at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Zion Warriors FC vs Best Talents FC:
The committee upheld Zion Warriors’ claim and ordered the NFF TMS Manager to update the player passport of Gafar Adedayo Bello to reflect his registration with the club from 2021 to 2024.
Aminu Yusuf vs Sunshine Stars FC:
PSAC adopted a mutual settlement agreement, ordering Sunshine Stars to pay ₦12.5 million in three instalments between January and March 2026.
Aliyu Abdulrazak Tunde vs Katsina United:
Katsina United were ordered to pay ₦7.2 million for unilaterally terminating the player’s contract.
Coach Gbenga Ogunbote vs Shooting Stars FC:
Shooting Stars were ordered to pay ₦9 million in severance fees and fined ₦1 million for breaching Ogunbote’s contract.
Basiru Ibrahim vs Kebbi United FC:
The case was struck out after the claimant voluntarily withdrew the matter.
The NFF reiterated that any club that fails to comply with PSAC decisions within the stipulated 45-day period risks transfer bans and other disciplinary measures, as the federation moves to enforce contractual discipline across Nigerian football.
The verdicts further states that an appeal against the decisions shall lie to the Court of Arbitration for Sports, Lausanne, Switzerland. (Art. 70 of NFF Statutes, 2010).
