After 10 games out, Iheanacho could return for Roma this evening
Kelechi Iheanacho could make an appearance in Celtic’s Europa League encounter against AS Roma at Parkhead this evening.
The Nigerian international striker has missed 10 consecutive games after being forced off with a hamstring problem after only two minutes of the Hoops’ 2-1 win over Sturm Graz in the competition on October 23.
Iheanacho, who signed for the champions on UEFA transfer deadline day, is edging closer to a comeback and was an unused substitute in Wilfried Nancy’s debut outing in the side’s 2-1 home loss to Hearts on Sunday.
The 29-year-old former Manchester City and Leicester City hitman is now back in full training and could play a part against the Serie A cracks.
Nancy said: “He has trained well. After that, he needs minutes. It has been a long time, two months, since he really played.
“The way we work the players who have not played regularly we try to get them through physical work to get back into the rhythm.
“For the moment obviously he is not fit to play a lot of minutes, but a few minutes, yes.”
Nancy, speaking to the Daily Record, added: “I have to understand that also in the past they did not rotate much. So I have done my work on that.
“I believe we have the players to do that but it has to be step by step.”
Iheanacho couldn’t have hoped for a better start to his Celtic career with a late penalty-kick winner on his debut against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on September 14.
He followed that up with the Hoops’ first goal in the Europa League campaign in the 1-1 draw with Red Star in Belgrade 10 days later.
Iheanacho also netted in the team’s 3-2 victory over Motherwell in the east end of Glasgow on October 5 and could get the opportunity to add to his tally against the Italian visitors in Celtic’s sixth game in the tournament.
