Trabzonspor ready another loan deal for Onuachu

Turkish Super Lig side, Trabzonspor is set to make a new proposal to Southampton in an attempt to secure a deal for Super Eagles lanky striker, Paul Onuachu.

According to Turkish outlet Sabah, the Super Lig side is keen to keep the forward beyond his current loan spell.

The Nigerian signed for Trabzonspor last summer following the Saints’ relegation from the Premier League.

He joined the south coast club in the 2023 January window, but failed to help the club’s bid for top-flight survival, scoring zero goals in 11 league appearances (all stats from Fbref).

Since arriving in Turkey, he has contributed nine goals and three assists from 17 appearances, with injuries keeping him out of the side since the end of February.

It was previously reported that Southampton had set an asking price of €12 (£10.3) million for Onuachu, with Trabzonspor showing interest in a permanent transfer this summer.

However, it was claimed that the Super Lig side is only willing to pay up to €10 (£8.6) million for the 29-year-old.

But it is now understood that Trabzonspor is attempting to secure another loan move for the player, instead of pursuing a permanent deal.

The difference in valuation of the player between the two clubs had led to an impasse in negotiations, which has led to a new strategy being considered by the Turkish outfit.

It remains to be seen whether Southampton would be open to another loan deal, but their fight for promotion has likely proved unhelpful to their negotiating strength.
