Property documents motivation — Dikko
The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Shehu Dikko, has said that the presentation of property documents to Super Eagles players on the eve of their opening Africa Cup of Nations match was intended purely as motivation and not as a distraction.
Dikko explained that the property documents were presented to all the players, while the national honours approved in 2023, following Nigeria’s run to the Africa Cup of Nations final where the Super Eagles lost to the host nation, were given to players who were not available during the original ceremony.
He noted that the exercise was brief and orderly, carried out to settle outstanding matters and keep the players mentally focused ahead of the tournament.
Nigeria is competing in Group C and begin their campaign against Tanzania.
The Super Eagles are currently ranked 38th in the world and sixth in Africa, while Tunisia, also in Group C, are ranked 41st globally and seventh in Africa. Uganda are placed around 82nd in the world and 15th in Africa, with Tanzania ranked outside the world’s top 100 and about 27th in Africa.
Nigeria will be aiming to build on their 2023 AFCON performance as they seek a strong start to the tournament.
