Osun FA boss wants Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast to co-host 2038 World Cup

The chairman of Osun State Football Association, Mr Sola Fanawopo has proposed a Africa three-nation host of the 2038 World Cup

With the 2030 and 2034 hosting of the World Cup all but confirmed, the question arises who will host in 2038?

It should be the West African World Cup, the Osun FA boss says. He stressed that Nigeria, Ghana and Ivory Coast should begin the process of co-hosting the World Cup in 2038.

"Ivory Coast has shown the World that a West African country can host a big football event successfully.

"Ghana and Nigeria should bid and host AFCON between now and 2024 to build and test new infrastructure and get prepared for the World Cup in 2038, he proposed.

Fanawopo said the opening match of the West Africa World Cup should be hosted by Ivory Coast while the final match should be in Nigeria.

"Each country should contribute five stadia to the pool and a trans-West-African fast rail system should be built from Lagos to Dakar for seamless movement of people during the Mundial and afterward.

"Of course, Nigeria, Ghana, and Ivory Coast will qualify for the 2028 World Cup automatically as hosts, taking 3 slots out of Africa's maximum 10 slots."
