Opposition mounts over Osayi-Samuel's Leeds United move
Super Eagles defender, Bright Osayi-Samuel is on the radar of Leeds United but it seems the move could be truncated as opposition is mounting, reports www.sportsunlimited.ng.
Osayi-Samuel had served Fenerbahce quit notice after the ugly incident that saw him wrestle an opposition fan who had encroached on to the pitch in a recent Super Liga with believe that he could have reached concrete agreement with Leeds United.
But a former Leeds goalkeeper, Paul Robinson believes Osayi-Samuel is an 'untested' player and he's leading the opposition to block the move. Robinson hss urged club to sign Spurs man, Joe Rodon instead.
Earlier this year, reports in Turkey have credited the club with an interest in the Nigerian who is claimed to be available for around £9million.
The former Blackpool and QPR man has been on Leeds' radar before and his versatility to play at right-back would appeal to Daniel Farke.
It has recently been claimed that the Whites made a £7m offer for Osayi-Samuel, but talks over a deal have reportedly been held off until the summer.
But Robinson believes what Leeds would reportedly be willing to pay for Osayi-Samuel would be a bit much from what he's seen of him.
Instead, he thinks that money should be spent to sign players like Rodon. The 26-year-old arrived at Elland Road on a season-long loan from Tottenham in the summer.
"He’s a player many, like me, will know very little about," Robinson told MOT News . "You read about the transfer links but actually the opportunity to watch them in the Turkish league you don’t get a lot of those unless we’re covering games in European football.
"He’s a player I know very little about, £7m appears to be a big price tag for someone out of the Turkish league. You look at the quality Leeds have got in those areas, and going into the Premier League with an untried, untested player.
"If you’re going to be spending that kind of money, I’d much prefer it to be spent on Joe Rodon and guarantee you signings like that. I think if you’re taking an opportunity like that there has to be a lot of trust in your scouting network, there has to be due diligence done on players of that age and that quality.
"I think £7m, going forward, for Leeds with Premier League money, hopefully it won’t be the biggest transfer they do, but if they are looking to pay around that type of bracket for players, from a personal point of view, I’d like a little more tried and tested in a more difficult league. Not necessarily the Premier League because you don’t know how players can cope with the Premier League until they come into it, but a bit more quality at a higher level that would have an impact.
"Because a player like that, yes the reputation and potential is there, but does he immediately come into the side and take out Wilfried Gnonto, Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter, Patrick Bamford? You would argue not.So, for Leeds to pay such a transfer fee, I would like to think it would be on a player that would have an impact on the starting XI."
