Okoku advocates strategic succession plan for national team

The lack of long term planning has been attributed to the dwindling fortunes of the Super Eagles.
This was the opinion of a former Flying Eagles and the Super Eagles star, Paul Okoku.
Speaking to www.sportsunlimited correspondent recently, Okoku said it is better late than never, stressing that this is the best time to start the succession plan for the Super Eagles.
"We need a strategic succession plan to ensure the continued strength and sustainability of our aging national team players.
"This plan should include continuity in the progression of age-grade development starting from primary school through high school and collegiate levels, then connecting to YSFON, U15, U17, university-level teams, Flying Eagles, Olympic teams, and ultimately the senior national team, the Super Eagles.
"Players should advance based on individual skills and developmental experience, allowing them to bypass certain levels or play at combined levels, rather than strictly following a set order. "I speak from personal experience that this flexible, merit-based approach fosters stronger, better-prepared national team players while ensuring a steady pipeline of talent for the future," Okoku said.
