A determined Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) came all out and outplayed New Nigerian Newspapers (NNN), to lift the giant trophy as the maiden edition of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) President Media Cup.

A determined Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) came all out and outplayed New Nigerian Newspapers (NNN), to lift the giant trophy as the maiden edition of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) President Media Cup ended on Wednesday at the Murtala Mohammed Square in Kaduna.

From the blast of the whistle that ushered in the first half, to the final whistle, the NTA lads left no stone unturned in ensuring they win the prestigious trophy.

The NTA staff at the Kaduna station turned out in numbers to cheer their team to victory in the highly entertaining encounter.

NNN Scoopers team, led by its captain, Amos Ebute Mathew fought hard to the blast of the final whistle, but could not contain the fireworks of NTA.

Earlier in the third place match, Correspondents Chapel inspired by Tega Nwaiwu overpowered DITV to settle for the bronze.

The tension filled match, saw both teams size up, with latter missing the third sport on the medals table narrowly.

In his remarks at the presentation of medals and trophies, SWAN President who was the Special Guest of Honour, Isaiah Benjamin commended the Kaduna Chapter of SWAN for organizing the competition in his Honour.

He commended all teams that participated for enhibiting skills and fair play.

Speaking further, he expressed gratitude to dignitaries that attended the final match, while assuring that subsequent editions will be more colourful.

Highpoint of the competition was the presentation of medals and trophies to the top three teams.

Some notable dignitaries spotted at the final included Editor of New Nigerian Newspapers, Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson, Zonal Director of NTA, Chairman of NUJ Kaduna State Council, Comrade AbdulGafar. Alabelewe and senior staff from New Nigerian, including Malam Idris Abdullahi.
