Nigeria defeats Sierra Leone to continue title chase as female cricket tourney near climax
Nigeria Female Yellow Greens defeated Sierra Leone by 5 wickets to claim the second position on the log behind Tanzania.
Sierra Leone Lady Patriots did not lose the game without a fight as they pushed their total scores to 91 runs for a loss of 9 wickets. Celina Bull of Sierra Leone gave a good account for her team by scoring 26 runs.
In the second inning, Nigerian ladies finished stronger as expected to keep their title hopes alive. Salome Sunday batted 35 runs before she was caught by Ramatu Turay to complement Zainab Kamara's bowling.
Esther Sandy and Captain Blessing Etim kept the tally ticking with 16 and 12 runs. Nigeria's total was 92 for 5 at 15th over. Nigeria chased and had a clear victory with 5 wickets to spare.
The 3rd win took Nigeria from third place to second on the table. The Nigerian girls look forward to winning against Tanzanian girls to keep the right competition in their favour.
The title hope according to Captain Blessing was achievable with lessons learned from every game. "we had fun today but we will still have a match review to draw from the positives and improve on the next game."
Meanwhile, Nigerian bowlers have shown significant improvement as Lilian Ude took 4 wickets and a record economy of 2.75 after concerning only 11 runs after 4 overs. Lilian was awarded the Player of the Match award valued at $100.
Friday will be the second rest day for the four nations participating in the 4th edition of the Nigeria Cricket Federation(NCF) organized competition. The round-robin action will resume on Saturday and conclude on Sunda .
