My boys were under too much pressure - Niger Tornadoes coach
By Vincent Akinbami
The chief coach of Niger Tornadoes, Majin Mohammed said the week 25 league match against Sporting Lagos was dicey for his team considering the confidence Sporting Lagos came into the game.
According to Mohammed, after beating Remo Stars in week 24 by 4-1 while his team was coming from a 1-0 away win against Bayelsa United, Sporting had much confidence they can beat us.
"I am not making excuses for our squandering of chances against Sporting Lagos, but the fact is the Lagos team came with so much confidence.
"Of course, you can't beat a formidable team like Remo Stars with such a wide margin and don't have that motivation. But again, we were also in the right spirit because our away win against Bayelsa," he said.
On why his boys did well in the first half and fizzled out in the second half, the coach said they were under so much pressure to win the match.
"We were under too pressure, the fans were looking for a decent victory after going away to beat Bayelsa United.
"Again, we didn't have enough rest on return from Yenagoa. Despite leaving Yenagoa very early in the morning on Monday, the team got to Kaduna 3am on Tuesday.
"There was traffic issue on our way back between Okenne and Lokoja. So, the fact that we played over the weekend and playing today affected my boys. But we thank God for the victory."
