Former Nigeria and world wrestling champion, Morris Atula, says he wants to become the President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation , (NWF), addressing Journalists at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, shortly on arrival from London.
Morris stated that he was persuaded to relocate back to Nigeria to salvage the dwelling fortune of wrestling in Nigeria, according to him
" The veteran wrestlers and ex- Olympic champions asked me to return to Nigeria, am mentally and technically sound, having traverse the world for more than forty years and leaved in Europe, I have the expertise knowledge and the administrative know-how to lead the wrestling Federation as President," he retorted
" As President of wrestling Federation, I will bring together the veterans, coaches and former Olympic champions to work with me, I'll introduce zonal managers to coordinate the coaches, evaluate and monitor the performance of the wrestlers."
Morris Atula,who also double as the President of the veterans and ex- champion, stated that the sports wrestling,is only known in one Region of the country.
" Wrestling is more pronounced and concentrated in just one region,which is the southern part of Nigeria, and this is not suppose to be so"
"We will train our coaches, and we will also transit our amateur wrestlers into Professionals on their retirement" He said.
He further, lamented the poor state of facilities in most states, and that he intends to open a bigger Vesta for wrestling.
Stating that, with adequate preparation Nigeria will win medals at the next Olympics Games.
