Nasarawa United secured a 1-1 draw against Shooting Stars Football Club (3SC) in their home game of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on Sunday. The thrilling encounter, held at the Lafia Township Stadium, saw both teams share the spoils after a late equalizer from the visitors.
Anas Yusuf gave the home side the lead in the 59th minute, slotting the ball past Shooting Stars' goalkeeper after a well-executed attack. Nasarawa United looked set to claim all three points until the visitors snatched a dramatic equalizer in stoppage time. Daddy Abdulrahman of Shooting Stars found the back of the net in the 90+3' minute, ensuring his team left with a hard-earned point.
Speaking after the match, Coach Kabir Dogo, who recently returned to Nasarawa United, expressed his satisfaction with his comeback to the club.
"I’m happy to be back with Nasarawa United. After receiving a call from His Excellency, I had to terminate my contract with Kwara United, my state of origin, to return here," Dogo said.
On his team’s performance, Dogo noted that he was still getting familiar with the players, stating that he expects significant improvement in the upcoming games.
"I'm just getting to know the boys, and I’ve seen how they play. There will be improvements in subsequent matches. This is just one match out of many. We will improve," he added confidently.
On the other side, Shooting Stars' coach, Gbenga Ogunbote, expressed mixed feelings about the result. Although his team managed to avoid defeat, he had hoped for a victory.
"We actually wanted to win the game but ended up getting a point," Ogunbote stated.
Despite the draw, Ogunbote was positive about the performance of his players and believes the result will help boost the team in their next fixture. "It was a good game, and it will improve the team in our next match," he said.
The sun reports that both teams will be looking to build on this result as they prepare for their next NPFL fixtures, with Nasarawa United aiming for a stronger performance under their returning coach, and Shooting Stars eager to secure their first win of the season.
