Gateway Utd condemns assault on match officials, promises to prosecute culprits

The management of Gateway United of Abeokuta has frown at the regrettable incident involving the assault on the referee following our NNL matchday 18 with Ikorodu City by miscreants unknown to the club.

In a statement signed by the club media officer, Moses Ojewunmi, the club condemned such behaviour in the strongest terms, and dissociate itself from such irresponsible and calculated behaviour targeted to undermine the club's long standing values and culture of discipline on and off the pitch.

"We want to state it clearly that such characters are unknown to us neither do we have shared values and principles.

"Information available to us indicated that miscreants behind the assault have been apprehended and handed over to the police. The club has equally shown keen interest in the ongoing investigations to determine the circumstances and unravel shadow parties behind that ignoble actions, with full determination to prosecute all those who are found culpable," the statement said.

It added, "we want to again restate our commitment and respect to personal and collective dignity and honour of the match officials, while pledging our sustained loyalty to the League body, in their quest to make "this most important league," Ojewunmi wrote.
