Super Eagles and Atalanta forward, Ademola Lookman has continue to receive congratulations and commendations for emerging the African Footballer of the Year in Morocco on Monday
The congratulations this time is coming from his colleagues like Ben Godfrey who posted on Instagram that he never doubted Lookman's prowess. " Never in doubt" he says.
For Dominic Solanke, Lookman ‘Deserved to the fullest’ while James Maddison simply exclaimed "Himmmm."
His Super Eagles teammate, Nathan Tella simply wrote ‘Congrats broo’ and Cenk Tosun screemed ‘Yesss Mola congrats bro’
Ademola Lookman’s career has taken quite the turn since he made the move to Atalanta a couple of years ago.
During his time at Everton, the Nigeria international failed to impress with his spells elsewhere in the Premier League also far from spectacular.
But in Serie A, playing under Gian Piero Gasperini, Lookman has take his game to a new level which may not have looked possible at Goodison Park.
Lookman said playing regular football has improved his game since leaving Everton back in 2019.
And that is now being recognised on the global scene with the 27-year-old being nominated for international football awards.
On Monday night, he was named as the Africa Player of the Year following a dazzling spell with Atalanta.
Earlier this year, Lookman was voted in the top 20 for the Ballon d’Or as he finished 14th overall in what was a seriously impressive achievement.
However, he has now gone one better in the CAF Africa Player of the Year awards as he has come away with the main prize.
Following his award, Lookman posted on his Instagram account to celebrate the achievement which saw a number of noteworthy names – including Ben Godfrey – share their congratulations.
It has been such an impressive turnaround for the attacker which has now seen Liverpool show an interest in Lookman.
Having struggles so much during his time in the Premier League, it would be interesting to see whether the 27-year-old feels he still has some doubters to prove in England despite his recent achievements.
Lookman has picked up from where he left off with an impressive start to the 2024/25 campaign across all competitions.
Across his 19 appearances this season, Lookman has provided a stunning return of 11 goals and give assists; including a goal against Real Madrid.
“Just over four years ago, I failed in front of the world. Fast forward four years and I’m the best player in Africa,” he said after winning the award.
“To the young children and people watching this, don’t let your failures weigh you down that they break your wings. Turn your pain into your power and continue to fly.”
Everton sold Lookman for £22m which is now looking like an absolute bargain considering the fee he could potentially fetch in the coming months.
